According to the Wall Street Journal and other sources one result of the economy getting better is that people will start quitting their jobs. Numbers from the Bureau of Labor statistics confirm that for the first time in years the rate of people quitting their jobs is higher than the number of layoffs.
It seems to be a reality that people stayed in jobs or situations that are less than desirable, waiting for the economy to get better. The hope is, of course, that a new job will be for the better.
For sure the cutting of cost, benefits and staff did not help to lift the mood at work. Many feel overworked, underpaid and under appreciated.
People resign. In more than one way. They also give up hope that their situation at their current job will give them what they want.
And then there are companies like Zappos, Facebook and Clif Bar who don’t seem to have to deal with a high quit rate. The difference for them is that they intentionally build a culture in their company that focuses amongst other things on job fulfillment.
Is it time to quit your job? I say: It’s time to create your culture.
